Peter D’Errico discusses the importance of confronting the evils of the past to move forward in this article: “Confronting the Past on the Anniversary of the Massacre at Wounded Knee: Why it Matters.” D’Errico makes an interesting comparison between the historical denial now facing the former Soviet Union and the historical denial of the Native American story in this country.  He finishes with a great quote: “The price of failure to confront the past is failure in the future.”
